Today
marks the beginning of the sixth week, also known as the last week, here at Upward
Bound. All of us have lived together for five weeks now. Helping each other,
caring,
learning, growing, and finding our true selves. As fast as every other week has
gone by here, this one is going to speed by twice as fast. Don't wish classes
or group time to go by faster this week. Cherish every moment you have, try to
learn something new, participate more, have fun, because it's not everyone who
is blessed with the chance to live in the community. The select few of us, however,
have the duty to show your appreciation to everyone who is giving us their time
so that we can be better students and people. Our teachers, our TC's, our cooks,
our core staff, all gave up their summers for us out of the willingness of the
hearts. So don't be too quick to shrug them off. Give them the attention they
deserve. This program changes lives and it's because of the people involved,
including the students. So for the last week I encourage you to go through it
step by step.
Resolve conflicts, try your hardest in everything you do, and keep every little
aspect of this summer in mind as you write scrolls to people. This could be the
last time for a long time that you see the people that truly had an affect on
you so let them know you appreciate everything, because as shorts as life is,
a summer at UB is gone with a blink of an eye. And now when people ask you why
you would spend you summer in school by choice, you can say what I do... You'll
never know until you go.
