Upward Bound does not end with the final day of the summer program. Instead,
we have an extensive academic year program to advise, motivate and enrich students
throughout the school year. In the fall of the school year, students and Upward
Bound staff commit to an Academic Year Agreement which
describes the responsibilities of the program and its participants.

ACADEMIC ADVISING
During the academic year, students see a UB advisor twice a month in school to
explore course selection, college planning and financial aid, and to help students
set and follow through on their academic and personal goals. Students often remark
on the value of having a person to support them in achieving their goals.
ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Students also have the opportunity to attend enrichment
activities in their region (Seacoast, Manchester, and North Country). Once
a month, they can participate in: social events such as pizza parties, sports
games, or bowling, in cultural events such as art museums or concerts,
in lectures or presentationd on a variety of academic topics, and in workshops
on such topics as study skills, SAT preparation, and computer use.
OTHER ACADEMIC YEAR ACTIVITIES
During the school year, students also
take part in college visits, workshops for Juniors and Seniors, a reunion
party, and various cultural events in places like
Boston and
Portland. Students and parents
also receive program newsletters that highlight student achievement and college-related
information.
